Top 5 Ways to Prepare for a New Semester

August is a busy time of year for every college student. It’s the end of summer and time for everyone to return to their home away from home.
No matter what you have to do during this time, being prepared for a new semester and school year is a great way to relieve some of your stress. Here are 5 tips to make sure you’re ready to start the year off right:
#1 – Color code your classes
Color coding your classes is an easy way to make sure you’re organized when classes begin and stay organized throughout the semester. You can color code your classes by using colorful pens, highlighters, folders, and journals. This way you won’t have to worry about losing any notes or assignments or mix up any important dates.
#2 – Buy a planner
If you don’t already have a planner, go buy once ASAP. Having a planner is the best way to see everything you have going on for the semester and helps you plan ahead. When you write everything down so you can see it all in front of you, it’s easy to be more proactive with your time.
#3 – Don’t skip the first day of classes
It’s easy to convince yourself to skip the first day of a class because it’s “only syllabus week”, however, this could leave you off to a bad start to the semester. Even if you are only going over the syllabus on the first day of class, you might miss important information. A lot of times professors use a syllabus from a previous semester, so the information isn’t always 100% accurate. You’ll want to be in class the first day so you don’t miss any updates!
#4 - Clean your room
Nothing adds more stress than a dirty room and piles of laundry. Getting your room cleaned and organized before the first day is a simple task to get you on the right track. It’s also a good way to make yourself feel like you’ve got it all together. You won’t need to worry about coming home to a mess which will give you extra time to rest in between classes.
#5 – Go grocery shopping before classes start
Grocery shopping is something everyone likes to put off until the last minute. Doing this during the first week of classes will only make it all more hectic. You’ll be glad you have one less thing on your to-do list when coming home from class. Bonus points if you decide to meal prep.
